While this is not a scientific review, I can say that the water comes out tasting better after going through the filter. It's easy to install (once you figure out how to remove the old one) and starts to work immediately after the initial runthrough. I just wish it were a bit cheaper.

We have a Kenmore fridge and these are the filters that work with it. Kenmore don't make crap, other companies like LG (for ours) do and then we (the consumer) have to go on a hunt to find the filters when the magical "replace filter" light lights up. Sears didn't carry them, their outlet didn't carry them, I was told to go to a parts store but instead Amazon had them (looked up model number on previous filter).

The filter is extremely effective - we are using it in a costal area where the tap water tends to have a metallic taste. The filter effectively removes that flavoring, leaving nuetral flavored water. It is, however, a definite challenge removing the old filter, even once the light cover and shelf are removed, it is still a pain to remove. However, once the fridge decides to reelease the old filter, the new is easily installed, the locked and unlocked indicators make aligning the filter a snap, and the successful seating has a tangible physical feel as well as a sound.
